9 December 2005 Click here to download photos of the night (18MB zipped file) The winners of the fifth annual PPAI Magazine Awards were announced last night at a gala ceremony at The Four Seasons Hotel in Dublin. The awards were presented by Ryan Tubridy. U Magazine scooped the Consumer Magazine of the Year award whilst Dyflin Publications, Karen Hesse and Philip McGaley took the gong for Publisher of the Year. The winners in each category were: 1. Interactive Magazine of the Year- www.irishconstruction.com-Commercial Websites
2. Customer Magazine of the Year- SuperValu Fresh - Harmonia
3. Annual of the Year- Maternity - Ashville Media Group
4. Magazine Campaign of the Year was won by Carat Ireland for the Smirnoff 21 campaign.
5. Business to Business Specialist Magazine of the Year- ShelfLife - MediaTeam
6. Business to Business Magazine of the Year- Business Eye - Buckley Publications
7. Magazine Student Writer Awardwas won by Donna Walsh from Dublin City University for an article she wrote for U Magazine.
8. Editor of the Year- Richard Buckley - Business Eye
9. Designer of the Year- Layla Hogan - Dyflin Publications
10. Consumer Specialist Magazine of the Year - Confetti - Dyflin Publications
11. Consumer Magazine of the Year- U Magazine - Harmonia
12. Publisher of the Year - Karen Hesse/Philip McGaley - Dyflin Publications
"The Periodical Publishers Association of Ireland Awards 2005 honour Irish magazines and the people who make them excellent. These Awards have significantly highlighted the rich pool of quality and creativity that exists in Irish magazine publishing, and have honoured its best professionals. The Awards are open to all magazine publishers, not just members of PPAI, so an award is truly the accolade of the entire magazine industry" said Gerry Daly, Chairperson, PPA Ireland. The awards were judged by an expert panel chaired by Steve Shanahan, Chief Executive Institute of Advertising Practitioners in Ireland (IAPI). Other members of the judging panel were John McGrath, President, Association of Advertisers in Ireland (AAI); Laurence Roe, Managing Director, Newspread; Tara Buckley, Director General, RGDATA; Catherine O'Mahony, Media and Marketing Editor, Sunday Business Post; Ray Douglas, Creative Director, Anderson Spratt and Chris Harrison, President, Chartered Institute of Public Relations (NI). The sponsors were Eircom, Boylan Print Group, Polestar, Sooner than Later, An Post, St Ives Web, Combined Media, WNS, Newspread and The Cradley Print Group.
