(836k zip file) The winners of the PPA Ireland Magazine Awards 2003 were announced tonight at a gala dinner at The Four Seasons Hotel, Dublin. The PPA Ireland Magazine Awards were created 3 years ago to recognise and reward the best Irish magazines in a number of sectors. 350 people from the publishing industry, representing nearly 200 Irish titles, gathered at the event to pay tribute to the outstanding achievements of this year's winners. The PPA Ireland Magazine Awards winners are: Consumer Magazine of the Year is Image magazine. Sponsored by Newspread, the award was presented to editor, Sarah McDonnell.
Publisher of the Year, is Diarmaid Lennon of Ashville Media Group whose titles include Maternity, VHI- It's All About Living, Jurys Doyle Moments, Garda Times, Firecall, Signal and A Buyer's Guide to Irish Art. The award was sponsored by Lithographic Web Press.
Consumer Specialist Magazine of the Year, sponsored by WNS, went to the Irish Arts Review.
Business to Business Magazine of the Year, sponsored by An Post, went to Checkout.
Business to Business Specialist Magazine of the Year, sponsored by Stephens and George Magazines, went to Forma Interiors.
Editor of the Year is Richard Buckley of Business Eye. The award was sponsored by Spring.
Customer Magazine of the Year went to Smurfit Communications for SuperValu Fresh and was sponsored by Sooner Than Later.
Annual of the Year, sponsored by Boylan Print went to Select Furniture and Interiors of Ireland.
Interactive Magazine of the Year is the website www.hotpress.com. The award is sponsored by Combined Media.
Religious and Not For Profit Magazine of the Year is St Anthony Brief.
The chairman of the judging panel was Mr John Mellon, former Chief Executive and Chairman of IPC Magazines and Reed Elsevier. Joining John on the judging panel were Tom McGowan, President of the AAI; Steve Shanahan, Chief Executive IAPI; John Keane, Chairman, Ardmore Advertising (NI); Rosemary Allister, John Laird PR (NI), Laurence Roe, MD of Newspread and Gerry Davis, Chief Executive PR Institute of Ireland. The awards were co-sponsored by the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC). Speaking at the event, Chairperson of PPA Ireland, Rosemary Delaney said " this awards ceremony portrays the strength, depth and dynamism that flourishes within the magazine industry. The event allows us to review our achievements of the past year which saw not only the successful introduction of the Code of Verification of Circulation, but also the launch of the first of a number of research initiatives to advertising agencies. All this copper fastens the role of PPA Ireland as the promoter and marketer for the Irish magazine industry".
